Classical epideictic theory in early modern treatises

Orations written during the 17th century in Sweden, for example at the death of Gustav II Adolf, exhibit a profound
and extended knowledge of the topics of laudation. This article will show how the topics for genus demonstrativum and laudation in the classical treatises were transmitted through rhetorical treatises from early modern times. The function and importance of epideictics during this time will also be in focus.
