Rätt och retorik i Euripides Hekabe

Artikeln diskuterar juridisk retorik i Euripides tragedi Hekabe. Dramat är uppbyggt omkring tre retoriska tvekamper: mellan Hekabe och Odysseus, mellan Hekabe och Agamemnon, och slutligen mellan Polymestor och Hekabe. Den retoriska strukturen och stilen hos dessa tvekamper är i första hand rättslig. Artikeln presenterar en närläsning av de retoriska duellerna och placerar dessa i sitt juridiska och kulturella sammanhang i 400- talets Aten. Artikeln demonstrerar den centrala betydelsen av rättegångsprocessen för den grekiska förståelsen av rättvisa. Artikeln avslutas med en diskussion av tre separata frågor: Hekabes moraliska karaktär; de enskilda moraliska och juridiska rättigheterna hos personerna och hur deras rättsanspråk driver handlingen; och statusen hos såväl den skrivna som oskrivna lagen i pjäsen.
