Dekorum og fortælling: Trump, Clinton og “the deplorables”

Forestillinger om dekorum har i hvert fald siden Cicero stået centralt i uddannelsen af offentlige talere såvel som i refleksionerne over, hvad offentlige samtale er eller bør være. Det aktuelle medielandskab er rigt på følelsesladede debatter om, hvad der er passende; i mange af tidens debatter udgør spørgsmål om det passende ikke marginale perspektiver på diskussionen af en sag, men er i stedet det, som debatten handler om. Denne artikel undersøger aspekter af anklager om brud på dekorum. Det sker ud fra antagelsen om, at kategoria ofte følger narrative logikker: En anklage kan retrospektivt fortælle historien om et brud på dekorum, mens den prospektivt kan bruge denne fortælling til at konstituere en identitet. Artiklen tager som sin genstand Trump 2016-kampagnens anklager mod Hillary Clintons kampagne i kølvandet på Clintons udsagn om, at halvdelen af Trumps potentielle vælgere kunne betragtes som overflødige eller uacceptable (”deplorable”).
